This extremely important book is one of the standard sources for the history of the American whale fishery. A must in the library of any collector interested in the subject, it lists the voyages made by American whaling vessels, sailing ports, the captains, whaling grounds visited, catch and dates of departure and return, from the earliest inception of the industry to 1876, and is well indexed.

This is one of the very scarce editions privately published by the Author at Waltham, Mass. at the same time as the GPO edition which was Issued in 1878 as part IV of the Commissioners Report, 1873-76 of the U.S. Commission of Fish and Fisheries.
