2526 Antique Scrimshaw Whale Ivory, Whalebone and Rosewood Swift

This pretty swift or yarn winder consists of 12 whalebone arms radiating out from whale ivory cage collars at the top and bottom. At the top is a turned whale ivory cup with scribe lines highlighted with red and black pigment or sealing wax. The shaft is of whale ivory and rosewood. The swift is 15 3/8 in. tall and is mounted on a newly turned base. 19th C. Excellent condition tied with newer ribbons.
