"Whales Seen & Taken On Board Bark Pioneer Capt Tripp"

Product Description

This handwritten document lists the latitudes and longitudes of whales seen and taken on an Atlantic whaling voyage of the New Bedford Bark Pioneer, from July, 1873 to Aug, 1874. The Pioneer was owned by Gideon Allen & Son and her master was Alexander A. Tripp. Though the voyage was relatively short, it was fairly successful. The last entry reads "14 Months 1100 Bbls Sperm Oil".

The condition of this document is as seen in the photos. It has been folded and while the ink is faded, it is quite readable. and makes for an interesting piece of American whaling history. 15 1/2 in. x 10 in.
