A double flue or "arctic style" whaling iron, ca 1830's-40's mounted on a replicated pole in authentic fashion with rope, with the socket served with marlin. American, found in New Bedford. Length of iron 34 3/4 in., oa length 93 1/2 in. Fair to good condition with some losses to the socket, which is covered by the serving.
Double flue style whaling harpoons are scarce, as the industry began using toggle irons almost exclusively after the mid 19th century.
