Product Description
This most unusual antique scrimshaw tooth is engraved on the obverse with a banner reading "Collossus" and a super-human sized figure which was inspired by the Colossus of Rhodes, a statue of the Greek god Helios, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. A 19th C. ship between his legs mimics the ancient vessel seen in images of the original statue. The reverse shows an all-seeing eye above a lady next to an anchor above a tree, house and meadow. Beneath this the letter "R" with vine and flowers is flanked by a Masonic Square and Compass emblem and a cornucopia above a well and bucket. 19th C. 7 in. high.
